Self-PoWERed Learning Institute
The Self-PoWERed Learning Institute offers a series of modules designed to build the capacity of community-based organizations and nonprofit staff. All modules are self-directed and self-paced, allowing learners to engage with the content at their own convenience. Each module focuses on a specific area of organizational growth, from strategic planning and leadership development to program evaluation and resource development.
By engaging with these modules, learners will gain practical skills, tools, and frameworks to strengthen their organization’s operations, improve program effectiveness, and drive meaningful impact. Focused on real-world application, these modules are designed to support learners in creating sustainable, impactful programs that meet the needs of the communities they serve.
Using Geographic Information Systems and Maps for Program Planning and Development
Explore how geographic information systems (GIS) and mapping tools can enhance program planning, service delivery, and fund development. This module introduces community-based organizations and other users to visual data tools that illustrate service needs, identify trends, and support community storytelling.
Users will learn to navigate key mapping tools developed through the Gilead COMPASS Initiative and available in AIDSVu, including service locator maps and service desert maps. These resources help organizations better understand the people and places they serve, strengthen their programs, and make data-driven decisions to improve community health outcomes.
Evaluation Planning Like The Pros
Strengthen your organization’s ability to measure impact and effectiveness with this module, designed for community-based organizations and programmatic staff. You will gain essential skills for developing comprehensive evaluation plans to assess program success and guide improvements.
Guided by the CDC’s Enhanced Program Evaluation Framework, the module takes you through key steps in designing an evaluation plan. To maximize learning, apply these concepts to a current program or project. By the end, you will have the knowledge and practical tools needed to create actionable evaluation plans that enhance accountability, demonstrate impact, and align with program goals.
Crafting Your Mission and Vision Statements
Learn how to create clear and impactful mission and vision statements that guide decision-making and actions within your organization. This module provides actionable steps for community-based organizations to craft or refine their guiding statements, ensuring alignment with core values and goals.
Navigating Change
Develop the essential skills needed to lead and navigate organizational change within community-based organizations (CBOs) and nonprofits. This module explores key change management concepts, including strategic, cultural, technological, unanticipated, and remedial change.
You will engage with practical frameworks, real-world case studies, and quality improvement tools to learn how to plan, implement, and sustain change. Strategies for overcoming common barriers to change will be provided, along with interactive opportunities to apply key concepts within a nonprofit setting.
